Step 4. Compost Step

Compost = Productive failure, obstacles, frustrations and discomfort.

Your goal needs your experience like a plant needs nutrients from the soil.

We must apply our knowledge from past experiences to the creation of our goal.

Here is a quick exercise.

1. Write down all your past successes.

2. Write down all your past failures.

The best nutrients come from fertilizer and we all know what that is, so past failures can fuel our dream like nothing else.

3. If any rotten feelings come up around past experiences we must compost these feelings, so we can use the nutrients from them.

• The best practice for composting rotten feelings about the past is Hoʻoponopono, an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness.
• 1st say, “I’m sorry” and take responsibility for the part you played.
• 2nd say, “Please forgive me” and forgive yourself and any others.
• 3rd say, “Thank You” and feel gratitude for the lessons learned and the silverlinings.
• 4th say, “I Love You” and bless the whole experience with love.

4. Look at your lists, Circle the experiences that will fuel your dream? How will they each inform this goal?
